Day 02: Bangalore to Mysore

Srirangapatna, an island formed by the River Kaveri, hosts the Ranganathaswamy temple known as Adi Ranga and Srirangam as Antya Ranga.

The Tipu Sultan Summer Palace via Ganjam boasts well-preserved mural paintings and a royal garden.

Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, the largest in Karnataka, on the banks of the Kaveri River, features 169 exotic bird species. Nearby is the Mahadevapura Bird Sanctuary, a paradise for birdwatchers.

Amba Vilas Palace, the official residence of the Wodeyars, ranks as India’s second most visited tourist spot, showcasing a blend of architectural mastery, mural paintings, works by Raja Ravi Varma, sandalwood carvings, Thanjavur paintings, ivory carvings, and antique pieces.

The palace premises house 12 temples, some dating back to the 14th century namely, Someshvara Temple, Lakshmi Ramana Temple, Shwetha Varahaswamy Temple, Sri Prasanna krishna Swami Temple, Sri Bhuvaneshwari Temple, Kodi Someshwara Swamy Temple, Sri Gayatri Temple, Sri Trineshwara temple and others. The Anthapura, an adjacent building, preserves the kings and queens’ costumes and dress materials from six centuries ago. Explore Mysore Zoo, officially known as the Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Garden, housing over 168 species across 157 acres, conveniently located near Mysore Palace.

Visit Sri Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hills, recognized as one of the Astadasa Shakti Peetas as per Adi Guru Shri Shankaracharya’s Astadasa Shakti Peeta Stotram. It is one of the seven most sacred hills in South India, also referred to as Krauncha Pitham in Skanda Purana.

Explore the Regional Museum of Natural History at Karanji Lake, featuring India’s largest walk-through aviary with flight cages. Discover a Butterfly Park and observe migratory birds such as Sandpipers, Herons, Asian Openbill Storks, Brown Shrike, Egrets, Red-wattled Lapwing, Rose-ringed Parakeet, Black Drongo, Red-whiskered Bulbul, Booted Warbler, Sunbirds, Greenish Warbler Paradise, and Flycatchers in this captivating natural habitat.

Visit the iconic KRS Dam (Brindavan Garden), the main water source for Mysore, Mandya, and most of Bangalore. Constructed in 1924 by the ruler Shri Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV and engineer Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, it is Asia’s largest dam. Celebrate Engineer’s Day on September 15th in honor of Sir M. Visvesvaraya, and witness the illuminated Brindavan Garden with its evening light and music fountain show.

Day 03: Mysore to Coorg

Check out from the hotel and drive to Coorg via Hunsur, Kushalnagar on the way visiting popular sightseeing places.

Embark on a delightful tour with the following destinations:

Bylakuppe Golden Temple (Namdroling Monastery): Visit the renowned Namdroling Monastery, famously known as the Golden Temple, often referred to as the Little Tibet of India.

Sera Jey Monastery: Explore the tranquil and less-known Sera Jey Monastery, a peaceful retreat following the visit to Namdroling Monastery.

Kaveri Nisargadhama: Experience a river island formed by the River Kaveri, providing a true deep jungle encounter with safety measures in place. Enjoy activities such as boating on the River Kaveri, visit the Deer Park, Rabbit Park, and opt for an Elephant ride. Additional adventures like Ziplining are available at an extra cost. Note that some activities may be season-dependent, and river entry is restricted during the rainy season. The entry fee is Rs 10 per adult.

Dubare Reserve Forest & Elephant Camp: Explore the base camp of Dasara Elephants, where you can engage in boating and thrilling whitewater rafting (additional cost). The rafting options vary in distance, offering a 7-kilometer adventure.

Harangi Dam: Visit the scenic Harangi Dam near Hudgur village in Somwarpet taluk, Kodagu district. The masonry dam spans the river Harangi, a tributary of the Kaveri, situated approximately 9 km away from Kushalnagar town.

Chikliholi Dam: Discover the picturesque Chikliholi Dam and reservoir, a serene and uncrowded spot known for its natural beauty.

Conclude the day with a return drive to the hotel for an overnight stay in Coorg.

Day 04: Coorg must see places

Embark on a captivating Coorg sightseeing tour after breakfast at 9 am:

Abbey Waterfalls: Engage in a soft trek amidst a coffee estate leading to the enchanting Abbey Waterfalls, nestled within a private property.

Mandalpatti: Experience the misty, windy, and scenic landscapes of Mandalpatti, accessible only by 4WD. Opt for an additional jeep ride (optional).

Explore Coorg’s Coffee and Spice Plantations: Coorg, accounting for 40 percent of India’s coffee production, has been nurturing coffee estates since the mid-19th century, significantly influencing the local economy. Vast stretches of uninhabited land are dedicated to cultivating coffee farms. Coorg is celebrated for its commitment to organic farming and the production of organic products. The region is a hub for signature spices such as Pepper, Elaichi, Cardamom, Cumin, Mint, Oregano, Sage, Bay Leaves, Thyme, Garlic, and Rosemary, cultivated in abundance. Raja Gaddige: Explore the enchanting park and historical structure housing the tomb of the Raja of Gaddige, built in the Indo-Saracenic style.

Bhagamandala Triveni Sangama: Visit this temple town at the confluence of three rivers – Cauvery and its tributaries Kannike and Sujyothi. Explore the famous Sri Bhagandeshwara Temple, also known as Bhagandeshwara Kshetra.

Talacauvery: Witness the origin of the river Kaveri at Talacauvery. Explore the Sri Agastheeswarar Temple, Sri Vishnu Temple, and enjoy panoramic views of the Greater Talacauvery National Park (entry restricted).

Raja Seat: Visit this heart of Coorg town offering a panoramic view of the Sahyadri mountain range, featuring a toy train and a beautiful garden.

Madikeri Fort and Palace: Explore the 17th-century Madikeri Fort, restructured by Muddu Raja. The palace, known as Jaffarabad, showcases European architecture and is now utilized for government offices. Entry is free of cost.

Omkareshwara Temple: Pay a visit to the famous Shiva Temple in Coorg, the Omkareshwara Temple, with its idol having origins in Kashi (Varanasi).

Conclude the day with a drive back to the hotel for an overnight stay in Coorg.

Day 05: Coorg to Ooty

Bandipur National Park offers the option of a Jungle Jeep safari from 6 am to 9:30 am. Notably, it is the first national park in India to employ drones for tracking poachers. While exploring, you may encounter freely roaming deer, elephants, bisons, black-faced monkeys, and other wildlife on the road itself. For those interested in a jungle jeep safari to spot tigers, it’s recommended to depart from Mysore by 5:30 am.

Madumalai National Park allows jungle safaris until 10 am. There are two routes to Ooty: one via Masinagudi and the other via Gudalur.

The Gudalur route, after a challenging journey through Bandipur and Mudumalai national parks, offers a refreshing tea break as you enter The Nilgiris, where the Western Ghats meets the Eastern Ghats.

Visit the Needle Rock Viewpoint, also known as Soochimalai, where you can literally reach for the clouds just around 700 meters from the road, providing breathtaking 360-degree views.

Experience Pykara Lake, a popular gateway 20 km from Ooty in the Nilgiri district. The Pykara village features a dam and a seasonal power plant, with an optional boat ride available.

Discover Pykara Waterfalls as the Pykara River changes direction, considered sacred as it flows northwards and then turns west after reaching the plateau.

The Pine Forest in Ooty, a major tourist hub, is a picturesque valley where numerous movies, songs, and serials have been filmed.

Explore the scenic Shooting Point, also known as Wenlock Downs, a significant attraction in Ooty.

Finally, reach Udhagamandalam (Ooty), check into your hotel, and unwind after your exploration.

Enjoy leisurely evening hours for shopping and stay overnight in Ooty.

Day 06: Ooty Sightseeing.

After breakfast at 8:00 am, embark on a captivating Ooty sightseeing tour:

Explore the expansive Government Botanical Garden, spanning 22 hectares, a prominent attraction in Ooty.

Visit the Doddabetta Tea Factory and Chocolate Museum to delve into the intricacies of tea processing and chocolate manufacturing.

Ascend to Doddabetta Peak, the fourth-highest peak in South India at 8652 feet, offering a panoramic 360-degree view of Ooty, Mettupalayam/Coimbatore, Avalanche Dam, and Mukurthi Peak. 

Experience Ooty Lake & Boathouse, where paddle boats, row boats, and motor boats await your exploration of this artificial lake constructed by John Sullivan in 1824 (additional charges apply).

Wander through the enchanting Government Rose Garden, the largest rose garden in India, situated on the slopes of Elk Hill near Ooty town.

Explore Sim’s Park, a beautifully maintained garden with a dedicated Children’s Zone.

Visit Lamb’s Rock in Coonoor, a tourist spot on the slopes of the Nilgiri Hill, offering stunning views of the Coimbatore plains, tea estates, and coffee estates.

Discover Dolphin’s Nose Mountain View Points, featuring a rock formation resembling a dolphin’s nose, situated 1000 feet above sea level.

Experience the allure of Highfield Tea Factory, a fifty-year-old establishment immersed in the aroma of freshly brewed tea, utilizing the nearby tea plantation.

Explore the Nilgiri Mountain Railway (Toy Train), built in 1908 and relying on a fleet of steam locomotives. Recognized by UNESCO as an extension to the World Heritage Site, diesel locomotives now operate between Coonoor and Udhagamandalam.

Conclude the day with free time for shopping in the evening, followed by an overnight stay in Ooty.

Day 07: Ooty to Kodaikanal

Start your day with a scenic drive to Kodaikanal via NH 67, passing through charming destinations like Coonoor, Mettupalayam, and Palani.

Optional: Explore the renowned Arulmigu Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple in Palani.

Visit Dolman’s Cave, a megalithic tomb characterized by two or more upright megaliths supporting a large flat horizontal stone.

Discover the awe-inspiring Silver Cascade Waterfall, which cascades 180 feet and results from the overflow of Kodai Lake over a steep cliff.

Upon reaching Kodaikanal, check into your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure. Overnight stay in Kodaikanal.

Day 08: Kodaikanal – Uncover the Must-See Attractions

Embark on a local sightseeing tour of Kodaikanal after breakfast:

Coaker’s Walk: Explore this man-made walking plaza, carved on the steep slopes of the mountain in Kodaikanal, offering panoramic views. Constructed in 1872 by Lieutenant Coaker, the walk stands almost half a kilometer from Kodaikanal Lake.

Kodaikanal Lake: Also known as Kodai Lake, this man-made lake in the heart of Kodaikanal City offers serene surroundings and a pleasant atmosphere.

Green Valley View: Enjoy a mesmerizing view of the surrounding area, promising a visual treat for tourists.

Pillar Rocks: Visit this must-see spot featuring naturally formed pillar-shaped rocks that captivate the onlooker.

Pine Tree Forest: Situated in the southwest of Kodaikanal, the Pine Forest is a popular tourist destination showcasing the beauty of the preserved natural surroundings.

Day 09: Kodaikanal to Madhurai

After breakfast, embark on a journey to Madurai and explore its renowned temples:

Meenakshi Temple: Immerse yourself in the historical allure of Arulmigu Meenakshi Sundaraswarar Temple, located on the southern bank of the Vaigai River in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. This sacred Hindu temple is dedicated to the goddess Meenakshi, an embodiment of Shakti, and her consort, Sundareshwarar, a manifestation of Shiva.

Shri Koodal Azhagar: Visit the Koodal Aḻagar Temple in Madurai, an architectural marvel dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. Constructed in the Dravidian style, this temple is celebrated in the Naalayira Divya Prabandham, an early medieval Tamil canon composed by the Alvar saints between the 6th and 9th centuries CE.

Arulmigu Subramaniya Swami Temple: Explore the Arulmigu Murugan Temple, Thiruparankundram, a Tamil temple devoted to the god Murugan. Notable as one of the “six Abodes of Murugan,” the temple features rock-cut architecture and is believed to have been constructed by the Pandyas in the 6th century.

Thirumalai Nayakkar Palace: Step back in time at the Thirumalai Nayak Palace, erected in 1636 CE by King Tirumala Nayaka. This 17th-century palace, part of Madurai’s Nayaka dynasty, showcases remarkable architecture and was the primary residence of the king.

Day 10: Madhurai to Rameshwaram

After breakfast, proceed with your journey to Rameshwaram, exploring the following popular places:

A. P. J Abdul Kalam National Memorial: Visit the burial site of former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. The memorial is marked by a life-sized statue.

Villoondi Theertham Temple and Beach: Experience the tranquility of this beachfront, featuring a wide sandy expanse, clear waters, and a revered freshwater spring.

Pamban Bridge: Explore the Pamban Bridge, a historic railway bridge connecting Mandapam in mainland India with Rameswaram on Pamban Island. It was India’s first sea bridge and the longest sea bridge until the opening of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in 2010.

Panchamuki Hanuman Temple: Visit this brightly painted temple dedicated to a 5-faced deity, featuring carved “floating stones” linked to a mythic bridge.

Lakshmana Teertham: Discover Lakshmana Tirtham, constructed in memory of Lord Lakshman, brother of Lord Rama, offering a sacred space for prayers.

Kothandaramar Temple: Visit this ancient temple, over 500 years old, lying on the road to Dhanushkodi and surrounded by the sea.

Dhanush Kodi Light House: Explore the abandoned town of Dhanushkodi and its lighthouse, destroyed during the 1964 Rameswaram cyclone.

Ram Setu/Adam’s Bridge: Witness Adam’s Bridge, a natural limestone formation connecting Pamban Island (Rameswaram Island) and Mannar Island, off the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka.

Agni Teertham: Take a holy bath at Agni Tirtham, one of Rameswaram’s prominent Tirthas, located on the beach east of Ramanathaswamy Temple.

Shree Rameshwaram Jyotirlinga Shivam Temple: Conclude your day with a visit to Ramanathaswamy Temple, a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Shiva, located on Rameswaram Island.

Day 12: Kanyakumari sightseeing

Embark on a day of exploration in Kanyakumari after breakfast. Discover the following prominent sights:

Swami Vivekananda Rock Memorial: A renowned monument situated at the southernmost tip of India, the Vivekananda Rock Memorial was erected in 1970 to honor Swami Vivekananda, who is believed to have attained enlightenment on this rock. Explore the meditation hall and the memorial.

Kanyakumari Mandir and Beach (One of the Fifty-Two Shakti Peethas): Positioned at the confluence of three oceans, Kanyakumari Mandir and Beach hold significant cultural and spiritual importance. This location is considered one of the Fifty-Two Shakti Peethas.

Tri Samudra Milan & Gandhi Mandapam: Experience the confluence of three oceans at Tri Samudra Milan, also known as ‘Thriveni Sangamam.’ Kanyakumari, also known as Cape Comorin, is renowned for this geographical phenomenon. Gandhi Mandapam is another notable site to visit.

In the evening, visit Suchindram Temple (One of the Fifty-Two Shakti Peethas) and enjoy the sunset.

Return to your hotel for an overnight stay in Kanyakumari.

Day 13: Kanyakumari to Trivandrum

Embark on a journey through Trivandrum after a delightful breakfast. Explore the following prominent places:

Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple: Located in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala, the Shree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is a Hindu shrine of great significance. The city’s name, ‘Thiruvananthapuram,’ translates to “The City of Lord Ananta.”

Attukal Bhagavathy Temple: Situated in Attukal, Kerala, the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple is a revered Hindu religious shrine. The main deity is Goddess Bhadrakali, mounted over ‘vethala.’ Bhadrakali is a form of Mahakali, believed to have emerged from the third eye of Lord Shiva. The goddess is known for slaying the demon king Daruka.

Shankumugham Beach: Located in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala, Shankumugham Beach is on the western side of the city and is in close proximity to Trivandrum International Airport.

Thiruvananthapuram Zoo: Occupying 55 acres of woodland, lakes, and lawns, the Thiruvananthapuram Zoo is a captivating destination in the city. Discover a diverse range of wildlife in this scenic setting.

After your exploration, proceed to your hotel for check-in and enjoy an overnight stay in Thiruvananthapuram.

Day 14: Trivandrum to back home.

Post breakfast, embark on your return journey at your preferred location, be it Airport, Bus Station, or Railway Station. The tour concludes with cherished memories.
